A 19th century French walnut gallery easel with a superbly carved panel, the centre dipicting a fascinating mischievous character face, with fangs and scrolling foliage that appears from the magical mouth, flanked by two pateras. The oblong bracket, is adjustable by means of a stepped ratchet and fixed with a brass catch, the whole frame rests on outswept feet terminating with carved haired lion pad paws. Purchased from Paris about 1975, and like the previous Syrian easel, used for many years in our shops.
