ANTIQUE – PAIR OF 18TH/ 19TH CENTURY CARVED MUSICIANS
£650.00
An unusual pair of carved figures, about 200 years old, the itinerant musician/ busker on the left is holding a musical instrument (viola, guitar, hurdy gurdy, I’m not sure). His fellow busker/ beggar appears to be holding a swag bag, which on first sight looked like a bagpipe? Probably carved from Swiss pine in Southern Germany, although the region of origin is located in the former Austria, now South Tyrol in Italy. Similar pieces of Folk Art can be found in the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum, Innsbruck, also Museum Groden, Urtyei-Groden.
Old restoration to hats and damage to one of the beards, PLEASE SEE PHOTOS
